The winners of the men's and women's singles will pocket 880,000 and 867,000 euros respectively. French Open 2005 - Legends Trophy: more teamsWith a combined total of 461 titles won on the circuit, including a trifling 24 Grand Slam victories (in 49 finals contested at such events), the twenty-four "Legends" invited this year have never been so deserving of the name! A fixture on the Roland Garros - French Open since 1988, the Legends Trophy, which brings together some of the finest champions of the last century during the second week of the tournament, will be sporting a brand new format at Roland Garros 2005. For each event (under 45s and over 45s) will now be contested by six teams, and the matches will consist of three sets, the third of which will take the form of a tiebreak (first to 10 points). This year, the Legends Trophy will run from Tuesday 31st May to Saturday 4th June, with the two finals again being held on the Suzanne-Lenglen Court.
Roland Garros 2005 - Benny-Berthet Day: on three courtsTraditionally staged on the Sunday before the Roland Garros - French Open tournament begins, Benny-Berthet Day has been reformulated for the 2005 tournament. As a result, all of the exhibition games contested as part of this charitable event, which this year takes place on 22nd May, will be played between noon and 7pm on the stadiums three main courts: the Philippe-Chatrier Court, the Suzanne-Lenglen Court and Court No. 1. The format is also being changed, to one bona fide set, with tiebreak if necessary at six games all (until now, matches have been decided by the best out of nine games). These changes are designed to make matches more dynamic and offer spectators greater variety and improved match quality. The basic principle of the day remains unchanged, however, with the stars of the Roland Garros - French Open tournament succeeding one another on court for friendly matches that are often spectacular and always played in the right spirit. There is a flat-rate ticket price for Benny-Berthet Day (€17), with all proceeds going to the charitable organisations connected with the event. French Open 2006 - Women's doubles: singles ranking to be taken into accountIn order to bring it into line with the system for the men's and mixed doubles, the entry system for the women's doubles has been changed from that of 2004. Consequently, the best singles or doubles ranking of each player will now be used to determine the entries in the final table. Only for the establishment of the top seeds will the doubles ranking only be taken into account. The deadline for entries is noon on Monday 23 May 2005.
